Kovar Bar and Rod is an iron-nickel-cobalt alloy with the following approximate composition: Nickel-29%, Cobalt-17%, Silicon-0.2%, Manganese-0.3%, Carbon-0.02%, balance Iron. It has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion that makes it excellent for applications in which precision under temperature variation is necessary. Its mechanical properties are tensile strength 485 MPa, yield strength 275 MPa, and elongation 25%. It has a density of 8.36 g/cm³, and it has excellent dimensional stability. Kovar is widely used as electronic packaging, sealing to glass or ceramics, and in aerospace for having consistent thermal and mechanical properties.

Kovar rods, primarily composed of iron, cobalt, and nickel, are resistant to galvanic corrosion due to their similar electrochemical properties with most alloys, reducing the risk when paired with compatible materials.
Yes, Kovar bar can be welded, but it requires special techniques and precautions due to its unique composition and thermal expansion properties. Proper heat control and filler metals are essential.
Kovar rods typically come in diameters ranging from 1/8" to 4" and lengths of up to 12 feet. Finishes include mill, polished, and brushed surfaces for various applications.

We provide products that come with both mill test certificates and third-party test certificates, ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.
