Maraging steels bar and rod are typically wrought products. Their composition comprises essentially iron with less than 0.03% carbon content. The critical alloying components consist of: Ni 17-25%; Co 8-12%; Mo 4-6% and; Ti 0.2-0.3%, plus small Al, Cu and C. These are highly strength toughed alloys from the martensite structure they take during a heat treatment operation. It exhibits high tensile strength, up to 2,000 MPa, good yield strength of 1,700 MPa, and high fracture toughness. The brittleness percentage of the steel is retained at a low level and is typically used in aerospace and tooling.
