High-performance nickel-based alloys Nimonic bars and rods and contain about 50-70% of nickel with chromium (14-22%), cobalt (2-20%), titanium (2.8-3.5%), and aluminum (1.5-2.5%). Small amounts of carbon, iron, and molybdenum are added to improve the strength and oxidation resistance. The mechanical properties comprise tensile strengths up to 1300 MPa, creep resistance at high temperatures that can reach up to 1000°C and corrosion resistance that’s good. It has mechanical integrity under extreme conditions, making it ideal for aerospace, gas turbines, and other high-temperature applications.

Nimonic rods can be susceptible to galvanic corrosion when in contact with more electropositive metals, especially in the presence of an electrolyte. Proper insulation or coating can help mitigate this risk.
Nimonic bars are available in various sizes, ranging from small diameters (6mm) to larger ones (up to 200mm). Common finishes include hot rolled, cold drawn, and polished.
Yes, Nimonic alloys, including Nimonic 75 and 80A, can be welded. However, proper welding procedures and pre- and post-weld heat treatment are essential to avoid cracking and ensure strength.
Nimonic bars and rods made from high-performance nickel-based alloys are typically found in industries that apply extremely high temperatures and stresses that the material has to undergo. They are used for aerospace components like turbine blades and combustion chambers where extremely high strength, resistance to oxidation, and corrosion are needed. They further find their applications in gas turbines, power plants, and nuclear reactors. Creep resistance is one of the outstanding properties of Nimonic alloys at high temperatures; such a component remains excellent in long-term high-pressure conditions. They have been used in chemical processing where aggressive environments demand resistance against those surroundings.
