It also contains silicon (Si) up to 0.40%. The alloy has good toughness, strength, and wear resistance, and it is suitable for shafts, gears, and automotive parts. Its mechanical properties comprise tensile strength at 655-850 MPa, yield strength of 415-760 MPa, and elongation of 16-21% depending upon the heat treatment. SAE 1541 is generally applied to medium-stress applications.
